In NSW, a Certificate of Registration is required before an individual is able to be employed by a licensed Real Estate Agent and be involved in the sale and/or leasing of land up to 20 hectares. Persons holding a Certificate of Registration can only act under the supervision of an appropriately licensed real estate agent, and are to be known as Assistant Agents from 23rd March, 2020.

All applicants for a Certificate of Registration must satisfy the Commissioner for Fair Trading that he/she:

  • is at least 16 years of age
  • is a fit and proper person to hold a certificate of registration
  • has the qualifications specified
  • is not a disqualified person

Qualification requirements
In order to qualify for a Certificate of Registration, candidates must provide a Statement of Attainment showing successful completion of the following CORE units of competency from the CPP41419 Certificate IV in Real Estate Practice. The underpinning knowledge must be based on New South Wales law. This Statement of Attainment will be issued by MRT Training – RTO 41529.

Units of Study

  • CPPREP4001 Prepare for professional practice in real estate
  • CPPREP4002 Access and interpret ethical practice in real estate
  • CPPREP4003 Access and interpret legislation in real estate
  • CPPREP4004 Establish marketing and communication profiles in real estate
  • CPPREP4005 Prepare to work with real estate trust accounts

The NSW Assistant Agent Distance Program is undertaken by you, in your own time, at the place of your choice!  Distance Education enrolments are accepted at any time, and course commencement is available as soon as you have received the materials.

Other details

Course materials are issued in “soft copy” format & can usually be delivered on the same business day as the order is placed – assuming all enrolment procedures are completed (including the submission of the completed Registration Form & USI).

The USI (Unique Student Identifier) must be inserted on the Registration Form before any completion documentation can be issued by the RTO.

Tutorial assistance is available during normal business hours by phone & email (at no additional cost).

Assessment is continuous with activities & tasks set throughout the manuals using competency based strategies. You will be assessed as ‘competent’ or ‘not yet competent’. There will not be any additional charges if you need to re-submit an assessment activity after being assessed as ‘not yet competent’. You will receive feedback on your assessments within 2 weeks and a Statement of Attainment after achieving ‘competency’.

Continuing Professional Development

Once issued with the Certificate of Registration by NSW Fair Trading, Assistant Agents are required to complete the CPP41419 Certificate IV in Real Estate Practice, within four (4) years – with a minimum of three (3) units of competence to be completed each year. There is a total of 18 units in the Certificate IV course. Failure to complete the full Certificate IV and have the Class 2 Real Estate Agent licence issued, will mean the Assistant Agent must “leave” the industry, for a minimum of 1 full year.
